The East Main Street Road Project - review of meeting

The Informational Meeting Thursday Evening November 6th, at the Mediterranean Manor on Main Street in Patchogue, was very helpful.  Several concerned residents attended and posed excellent and intelligent questions to our County Engineers.  Some fine-tuning will be done and the road is expected to begin construction in the spring of next year, 2009.  The project will hopefully be completed by November of 2009.  If the final coat of blacktop cannot be installed because of weather, it will be completed in the spring of 2010.  All major work is expected to be completed next year.  There will be a coordinator assigned to the project to contact every business owner.  They expect to perform the work with a minimum of inconvenience.  View Photos on the projects page.

Our Thanks to:

Legislator Eddington for holding this most important and needed meeting.

OurThanks to the Mediterranean Manor for the use of their facility.

Thank you to Legislative aide Rob Calarco for working behind the scenes to make this happen.

We also extend our thanks and appreciation to Mr. Bill Hillman, ‘chief engineer, division of highways’ and Mr. Dan Dresch Jr. ‘director of traffic engineering’ for taking the time to present the project and answer all questions.

Town Councilman Tim Mazzei and council aide Lucy Murphy for attending this County meeting and supporting Legislator Eddington with this project.

A week prior to this meeting, some of us had met with the engineers at Legislator Eddington’s office.  They had explained in detail why the project was changed from the original concept we had seen in years past.  The budget the County allocated for this improvement was 8 million.  Some of that money was for land acquisitions.  Since they could not obtain more funding the projected land purchases were not possible.  Thus the project work was modified to be sure that the original purpose could still be achieved.

Legislator Eddington repeated several times that this would be a work in progress.  Once the road is completed, or on the way, they will be working to obtain easements to move electric lines off the main road.  They will also be working on the sewer line hook up to Patchogue Village’s Treatment system. It seems it is more legally involved. Without a sewer line, it will hinder growth and revitalization on Montauk unless the Health Department accommodates exceptions should a project warrant it.  Councilman Mazzei pointed out that Mayor Pontieri supported the County to connect to the Patchogue Village Sewer line at Route 112.  Cost and a plan for right of way issues must be resolved first.

Attached are some photos taken that evening. (Go to projects page)  Rob Calarco is working on obtaining better copies of these plans that we may post them.  You can always call Legislator Eddington’s office with any questions concerning this project.  They have a copy on hand for their reference.  LI Advance reporter Linda Leuzzi will have more details of the evening in her report.

We need to obtain a head count on the number of residents who will attend the Plaza Theatre Rally on December 6th.  Please email us at this special address listed below.  We must inform the Town of our plan and arrange a permit if required. We will keep you informed of this as we move forward.  DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED.  Help us and yourselves by getting in on this rally. OK?
